Lots of people well into adulthood say they don’t know what they want to do when they grow up! So we stick with what we’ve got, because we don’t know what else to do.
If you don’t wake up most mornings thinking that something good will happen at work today; if you don’t come home in the evenings feeling that you have achieved something worthwhile – then you’re probably in the wrong job!
Finding a job that is satisfying and fulfilling can be a long term task. Before you start, you need to believe that you can be passionate about your work, if it’s the right job for you. It’s not so much the work you do, but how you do it that matters.
5 fresh tips for getting started
- Focus on what makes you happy – really happy. The best job for you will be one that allows to do stuff you really enjoy – at least some of the time.
- Think in terms of what is possible, instead of focusing just on what’s probable or likely.
- Identify your talents: those abilities that come naturally to you and always make you feel good. It’s these that will help you craft new possibilities for yourself. You don’t need to know exactly what the dream is – just what it’s made up of.
- Be open to surprises – sometimes the journey is as much fun as the destination; and sometimes the right job pops up unexpectedly. Sometimes our best options are available right where we are – we just hadn’t noticed.
- Tell everyone. The more people you tell about your hopes and dreams, the clearer they become, and the more likely you will find someone who can help you achieve them.
