General Career Development

Overview of the program

CareerCraft takes a non-traditional approach to learning about career management and career planning. The program is delivered primarily via online media on demand. Participants subscribe to the program for a 6 month period, during which time they have opportunities to participate in a range of webinars, hosted online discussion groups and live events, as well as having 24/7 access to a moderated career development networking site.

Program outcomes

This program is designed to develop participants’ career management skills, including their ability to:

• identify their evolving career aspirations and priorities
• articulate their marketable qualities
• make sound career decisions
• respond positively to uncertainty and change
• balance their working lives
• recognise and respond to opportunities
• develop their professional networks

Costs

Initial cost to set up the program in your organisation is $5,000, plus GST ($5,500, including GST). This fee includes free subscriptions for up to 10 initial subscribers. (Equivalent to $500 per person, plus GST.) Additional subscribers are charged at a flat rate of $250 per person, plus GST ($275 per person, including GST).
NOTE: The technical platform for this program is currently under development, and we plan to have it ready for implementation and available for subscription, commencing 10 August 2009.

Overview of the program

Moving On is a learning program where participants develop supportive peer networks, while addressing and resolving their career related issues. Topics covered include:

• Understanding the different ways people respond to change, or the prospect of change in their working lives
• Developing career resilience
• Understanding your work identity – what is important to you?
• Identifying abilities and talents
• Developing realistic career aspirations
• Positioning yourself to build your career – developing your own “brand”
Moving On consists of an introductory session (2 hours), followed by 4 half-day workshops – each one week apart. In addition to the group sessions, each individual participant has access to a brief one-on-one consultation with a facilitator, to discuss their personal issues and aspirations.

Program outcomes

This program usually results in one of three broad outcomes.

1. Some participants re-connect with and renew their enthusiasm for and interest in their current job. To quote a participant: “Thanks ... I now realise I’m in exactly the right place for me.”
2. Some participants develop a clearer understanding of what they want to achieve in the context of the organisation where they are currently working – and of how to make that happen for them. This is a common outcome for people in large organisations where there are a wide range of opportunities.
3. Some participants come to a definite decision that it is time to prepare to move on to the next phase of their career. This is a positive decision for everyone – staying where you are when it’s not the right place for you provides no real benefit for either you or your employer.

Costs

Cost per program: $10,000, plus GST ($11,000 including GST)
Cost includes two facilitators for all sessions (groups are limited to no more than 30 participants).

Overview of the program

The Next Phase incorporates a series of information sessions and facilitated discussions, as well as an opportunity for each participant to discuss their unique circumstances with a consultant. Topics covered include:

• The unique contribution of older workers – the value of wisdom and experience
• Current economic realities and workplace expectations – sorting the facts from the rumours
• Redefining retirement – the blurred boundary at the end of our working lives
• Policies and opportunities for a different worklife balance
• Sorting out the practicalities – financial and lifestyle considerations
• Negotiation and compromise – making it happen so everyone wins

Program outcomes

This program is designed to provide participants with information and skills to enable them to:
Make sound decisions about the kind of transition to retirement that will best suit them
Ensure their contributions continue to be valued and sought after as long as they remain at work
Identify and negotiate opportunities to facilitate their desired transition

Costs

Cost per program: $8,000, plus GST ($8,800 including GST)
Group size per program is limited to no more than 12.
